You can do all this on a personal computer. It should have a good soundcard and a lot of RAM.

I guess you sing and play guitar? That’s enough for some people… but you can always create sounds in most recording software interfaces. If you have a keyboard that’s usually the best for recording other instruments as most keyboards have hundreds of sounds on them.

You need some recording software first- check out Sonor Home Studio, around $120 US. I use it and it seems to work well with most interfaces… which brings us to the next topic.

You need a good interface. Assuming you sing and play guitar, check out the Line 6 interfaces - another $130 or so US. There is one that you can hook up guitar and a microphone. Make sure the interface is analog and not midi - it should connect to your computer via USB.

Next is your instrument, I assumed guitar. If

    1. Research software and hardware you want to use. its a personal preference. I would recommend at least having:
-a good synthesizer (keyboard), Roland’s keyboards are my favourites,
-and an audio interface, such as one create by Edirol.
-Microphones you would need to experiment with, a good brand is Shure.
    - A good laptop to put your software on, I would recommend a Windows one as more things are compatible with it. There are benefits to having it 32bit and 64bit, 64 is faster and has better performance, but 32 has more things that are compatible with it.
    2. why not?
    3. Its good to learn how to play other things, I would recommend the piano, especially if you are going solo and doing all of your own recording. Also, singing.
    4. Depending on how judgmental and petty your audience is, but you don’t have to be blond to be pretty anyways
5.I’m not sure in this area, sorry!
6.I would strongly recommend Sonar Producer 8.5, however it is expensive, and takes a long time to learn how to use. When you do, however, it is amazing, and extremely satisfying!
    7. The same as above, or you could try Cubase or Fruity Loops (FL Studio) if it doesn’t appeal to you. I haven’t ever tried those though, so I can’t help you there
    8. Just goof around; try different chords, make your own, make a catchy melody, mess around with it a bit. I’m not a good lyricist though, so I can’t help you there =(.
    9. Youtube is a great help, however so is a teacher!
    10. I am aware, thank you. ;)

Also, I would recommend listening to songs from genres you want to go into, and really analyze what is going into it. For actual producing, listen to how they are mixed and mastered, what effects were put on, etc. It is really useful to listen to trance, dubstep, electronic music, etc. for this, because they are a lot of times really incredibly produced.

    Hope this helps!

PS: all of these brands are completely your choice, there is no one brand that is completely better than all of the rest
